US: The EPA has shut down its national network of sensors that detect radiation levels. The official explanation is that most of the sensors are faulty or totally non-functional. The decision of the EPA to stop monitoring radiation levels in the US is not hard to understand unless you are suffering from the delusion that politicians and bureaucrats really care about your well being.
However, if you are a seasoned Reality-Zone dweller, you will have noticed that, ever since the Fukushima disaster, the official line from government has been that nuclear contamination is contained, levels of radiation outside the damaged power stations are within safe limits, and everyone at the corporate and government levels are doing their jobs responsibly – so there is no reason for alarm. In fact, there is no point any longer in even monitoring the results.

Need to Know has published dozens of reports from credible sources documenting that (1) radiation levels are gradually moving upward everywhere on Earth; (2) Corporations and government agencies have attempted to cover up nuclear accidents and secret waste dumps to avoid responsibility for negligence and fraud; and (3) The public knows very little of the extent to which they are being increasingly exposed to radiation levels in their daily living.
Stopping the monitoring and publication of radiation levels is a sensible move – if your goal is to make it even harder for the public to learn the truth.

A study by the World Health Organization says that long-term exposure to radiation, even at low levels, can dramatically increase the risk of dying from cancer. Following the initial discovery of a nuclear-waste site near a landfill fire in St. Louis, 24 additional contaminated sites have been identified across ten states in the northeastern US. Missouri: A fire that has been smoldering for five years under an EPA-superfund landfill in St. Louis now is threatening a large deposit of nuclear-weapons waste less than a quarter of a mile away. This is where the federal government secretly buried the uranium-processing waste from the Manhattan Project. Because it was a national secret, homeowners in the area were not told. A German human rights group has filed a criminal complaint against Alfreda Frances Bikowsky, a female CIA agent known as the “Queen of Torture”. The complaint centers around a German citizen of Arabic descent who was seized by the CIA in a case of mistaken identity. Financial expert, Peter Schiff, has written a eulogy about his father, Irwin Schiff, who authored six books condemning the income tax system as unconstitutional and fraudulent. Irwin was noted for having written the only non-fiction book to be banned in America. Irwin Schiff died from cancer at the age of 87 while chained to his bed. California Governor Jerry Brown signed the Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act into law. This gives the state control over the medical-marijuana industry, which currently is valued at $1.3 billion. Canada: Justin Trudeau has been elected as the new Prime Minister and immediately notified Obama that he will be withdrawing Canadian fighter jets from Syria and Iraq. However, he failed to give a withdrawal date, so this could be an empty promise, especially since the jets were committed in the first place for only five more months. Monsanto is asking California environmental officials to reconsider their plan to list glyphosate, the key ingredient in the company’s Roundup Ready pesticide, as a cancer-causing agent. Monsanto’s lawyers say that California neglected to consider valid scientific evidence to the contrary. Hi Ed. I just finished watching the first episode of The Truth About Cancer. It is great! I hope that MILLIONS will see it. Of course, I already know all that stuff because I have been reading the works of that genius, G. Edward Griffin, for about 40 years! But it is great to see all of that information put together in one package.
There was a case here in Utah in about 2005 involving a boy named Parker Jensen, son of Daren and Barbara Jensen. The state of Utah tried to take possession of Parker, claiming that he had some rare condition and wanted to force him to take chemotherapy treatments. His parents took him out of the state to Idaho. They were charged with kidnapping THEIR OWN SON!!! Parker is now alive and well without the chemo!
Fortunately, there was a great outcry here, and several bills were passed in the state legislature protecting parental rights. A most interesting case study.

Ed, I’m currently reading an intriguing book entitled, The Rise and Fall of Jewish Gangsters in America, by Albert Fried. It’s a brief historical survey of the subject, which existed in the Lower East Side, NYC, beginning in the late 1800’s.
If there’s one thing that comes through loud and clear it’s this: Gangsters didn’t fall, they morphed from bad guys to good guys. In other words, the gangsters of yesteryear are today’s financiers, businessmen, public officials, and bureaucrats. Their system of shake-down is the government, and their thugs are all the police and military that they have at their disposal.
The fact is, we don’t live in a slave-state, as I formerly supposed. Instead, we live in a protection-racket-nation. I believe this is the new model for the new age, being built from the best materials and methods of all prior ages.

GUN-FREE ZONES FOR POLITICIANS?

Dear Mr. Griffin, I have what I think is a great idea. Start a petition advocating a “gun-free zone” for the White House and the Congress. They love “gun-free zones” (such hypocrisy). It would almost be a parody – but I think it would get MEGA attention if the right group sent it out. I would surely sign it and have MANY friends who would also. I, myself, could start a petition, but I am a nobody. This would take a huge organization. Could you put out some feelers to get this done?

A cache of classified documents reveals the inner workings of US drone operations in Somalia, Yemen, and Afghanistan. They describe the procedure for assassinating people by remote control. The lead article this week reveals in minute detail how the US military tracks and kills people around the globe who are labeled as terrorists. It is difficult to read that without becoming fearful for our own safety, not because we are terrorists or enemies of America, but because just the opposite is true.
To love one’s country is not the same as loving the leaders of one’s country. It often has happened in history that the highest level of patriotism requires opposition to corruption within one’s government. The problem with that is obvious. Government leaders are the ones who get to say who the nation’s enemies are. If the leaders are corrupt, they will declare that anyone attempting to expose their corruption is an enemy of the state. In today’s world, that translates into being a domestic terrorist.
Many Americans approve assassination of terrorists because they accept the verdict handed down by the CIA and the President that the targets really are enemies of the American people 
who are plotting to bring death and destruction to Main street, USA.
Let us not challenge that assumption. Let us believe that all of those targets in the Middle East really were threats to citizens of the United States. Even so, a military strategy that kills nine innocent civilians for every one enemy combatant is not defensible. In a future global tribunal, it even might be called a war crime.
The thing that causes uneasiness over safety here at home is that corrupted leaders will go to any length to preserve their power. It is clear to me that we are rapidly approaching the point where anyone who opposes or even criticizes a political leader will be declared a domestic terrorist, the lap-dog media will repeat the accusation with solemnity, the uninformed public will accept it as truth, and the drones will be re-programmed for use right here at home.
That is where we are headed, but we don’t have to get there. If we can accelerate the growth of the present freedom movement and become a unifying force among all organizations seeking the victory of individualism over collectivism, we will be able to change nameplates on the doors in Congress and rescue our government from its captors. In doing so, we also will be rescuing ourselves.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death
-by his parents, Truth and Trust,
-by his wife, Discretion,
-by his daughter, Responsibility,
-and by his son, Reason.
He is survived by his 5 stepbrothers:

Who ever found war entertaining but perhaps those “driving the bus” of other’s existence. Who’s driving this bus, and why do they enjoy this “theater” so much? However I’m a bit confused on your message about “The HIV/AIDS Fraud”. Admittedly, I haven’t dug real deeply into the “Fraud” point of view. I certainly know Pharmaceuticals will pull any dirty trick to make a buck and fool the public.

Hello John.
The short answer is that
(1) No one has ever seen the HIVirus. It is theoretical.
(2) The test for HIV produces false-positive results from multiple types of infections, including the common cold.
(3) When we read that HIV is killing more and more people (in Africa, for example) the total death rate does not increase. It remains remarkably constant, suggesting that people are dying of the same old diseases re-labeled as HIV because of false-positive tests.
(4) AIDS is the correct name; It is an auto-immune disorder syndrome. That means it is a breakdown of the immune system, not caused by a mythical virus, but by drugs (recreational or prescription) – and the result is a syndrome of symptoms of well-known diseases that take over when the immune system is compromised. They are dying from cancer, pneumonia, malnutrition, etc. but their death certificates show AIDS.
(5) The treatment of choice, AZT, is highly destructive of the immune system, thereby, creating the illness for which it is prescribed. Give AZT to healthy people and there is an excellent chance they will die from AIDS. This is similar to treating cancer with chemotherapy.
(6) The HIV myth is highly profitable to the health-care industry with most of the cost being picked up by taxpayers.
(7) Hundreds of thousands of needless deaths.

Hi Ed. I just finished watching the first episode of The Truth About Cancer. It is great! I hope that MILLIONS will see it. Of course, I already know all that stuff because I have been reading the works of that genius, G. Edward Griffin, for about 40 years! But it is great to see all of that information put together in one package.
There was a case here in Utah in about 2005 involving a boy named Parker Jensen, son of Daren and Barbara Jensen. The state of Utah tried to take possession of Parker, claiming that he had some rare condition and wanted to force him to take chemotherapy treatments. His parents took him out of the state to Idaho. They were charged with kidnapping THEIR OWN SON!!! Parker is now alive and well without the chemo!
Fortunately, there was a great outcry here, and several bills were passed in the state legislature protecting parental rights. A most interesting case study.

Ed, I’m currently reading an intriguing book entitled, The Rise and Fall of Jewish Gangsters in America, by Albert Fried. It’s a brief historical survey of the subject, which existed in the Lower East Side, NYC, beginning in the late 1800’s.
If there’s one thing that comes through loud and clear it’s this: Gangsters didn’t fall, they morphed from bad guys to good guys. In other words, the gangsters of yesteryear are today’s financiers, businessmen, public officials, and bureaucrats. Their system of shake-down is the government, and their thugs are all the police and military that they have at their disposal.
The fact is, we don’t live in a slave-state, as I formerly supposed. Instead, we live in a protection-racket-nation. I believe this is the new model for the new age, being built from the best materials and methods of all prior ages.

Dear Mr. Griffin, I have what I think is a great idea. Start a petition advocating a “gun-free zone” for the White House and the Congress. They love “gun-free zones” (such hypocrisy). It would almost be a parody – but I think it would get MEGA attention if the right group sent it out. I would surely sign it and have MANY friends who would also. I, myself, could start a petition, but I am a nobody. This would take a huge organization. Could you put out some feelers to get this done?

Statistics don’t lie but liars create statistics

It was Mark Twain who said: “There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.”
That certainly applies to the mathematical trick used by Big Pharma to deceive us into believing that drugs are beneficial. Here’s an analogy:
If a $100 item in the store is discounted 2%, it is not an impressive number. If the discount is increased to 3%, the number still is unimpressive, because the absolute gain in discount would be only 1%. However, if you are a con artist and want to fool people into thinking that a 1% gain is a wonderful deal, all you have to do is compare the new 3% discount with the previous 2% discount. That is called a “relative” comparison, whereas comparing to the original price would be an “absolute” comparison.
By comparing the new 3% discount to the old 2% discount, you can honestly tell your victim that it is an “improvement” of 50%!Why? Because a 3% discount is 50% higher than a 2% discount. It still is only a 1% absolute gain, but you would not mention that. Let the suckers figure it out for themselves.
Three afflicted patients out of a hundred in a control group represents a 3% affliction rate, but two patients afflicted in a treatment group after taking medication represent a 33% “improvement” relative to three patients in the control group. The drug company will claim “33% reduced risk” because dropping from three to two represents a 33% reduction.
As with products in a store, however, reality is not altered by this trick. Those in the treated group still will have a mere 1% absolute benefit and, for that, they pay a fortune and assume the risk of side effects. They do this only because they have been tricked into thinking that the odds are much more favorable than they really are.
And it gets worse. When we take into consideration the massive fraud that has been uncovered within the testing programs of the largest drug companies, we have good reason to be suspicious of claims of any absolute benefit at all, not even 1%. I believe that, if the tests were not rigged, the numbers would be negative, which means more harm than benefit.
But never mind that. There are drugs to sell!

Hi Ed. Heavy-metal poisoning and exposure to radionuclides are rarely the same thing. Chelation therapy is not the right response to a concern about radionuclide exposure.(Reference) The best and established regimen is to saturate the body with non-radioactive isotopes to prevent the body from scavenging and using radioactive isotopes. The most concerns from recent fission incidents are usually iodine 131, caesium 137, and strontium 90. I protect myself by keeping a stash of potassium iodide which, through saturation, will preclude the assimilation of radioactive caesium and iodine.

Dear Mr. Griffin: I enjoyed seeing you on the Trailer for the Agenda-21 movie. I ordered 100 copies to deliver to my County Seat, Elected Officials, Local Churches, and Action Groups.
The thing I noted about your comments on the Trailer is that you identified the Banksters as Predators. This is not an accurate depiction of them. Predators stalk and hunt. We’re dealing with Parasites. Parasites latch hold of and suck the life blood out of their host.
While a Nation is healthy it can withstand the parasitic acts of the Banksters and their Corporate Blood Suckers. Once the Nation is weakened, the Institutions undermined by the corruption that follows the sting of unrestrained wealth and power become necrotic. The Body Politic dies a painful death. The world makes a lot more sense, in my view, using the parasite analogy.
REPLY BY GEG: I agree that parasites may be a better analogy for most of these characters, but some of them truly are stalkers, hunters, and killers. The halls of government are populated with both groups, but those that rise to the top of the power pyramid are usually the predators.

Putin also winked at Charlie Rose. It’s hidden in plain sight if you review official appearances/videos. This behavior certainly shows me that the rhetoric is an act. There is not going to be any nuclear war.

A Secret Handshake?
I had intended to comment on the unwinnable contest between the U.S. and Russia in Iran, Ukraine, and elsewhere – but there was something in this week’s cartoon that caught my attention. It was the comment by one of the cartoon observers of the arm-wrestling match between Obama and Putin. He says, “It’s their secret handshake.”
I don’t know if the cartoonist realized how profound that is, but it touches the long-standing debate over the extent to which the world’s greatest conflicts are genuine vs. being orchestrated, as in Orwell’s novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four.
Orwell described a world divided into three constantly warring regions, Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia. Although they were enemies of each other, their regimes were quite similar. All of them ruled their subjects mercilessly. There was no conflict over ideology or religion or disputed territory. They fought, not for conquest, but simply to wage perpetual war.
The leaders of each region understood that their ability to keep their subjects from rebelling depended on having a dreaded enemy. It was only the fear of being conquered by such enemies that the people remained content to bear the burden of tyranny from their own leaders. It was an unspoken agreement between the heads of these states that they should wage perpetual war against each other, because it was in their mutual interest to do so.
All of this flashed through my mind as I contemplated the possibility of a secret handshake (or an unspoken agreement) between Obama and Putin as they pit themselves against each other in today’s cartoon.

The Internet plus the innovative use of the geometric progression of small Groups of 8, effectively collapses that distance and heralds in a new age of Real-time Democracy.

Hello John. Thanks for your response. I could not agree more with your enthusiasm for the bottom-up model, but there is more to it than that. Any organizational model must survive the malicious attacks of its competitors. Unfortunately, we are not in a system that will leave us alone to experiment with alternative systems. We will not be able to build a new bottom-up system without sufficient power to dismantle the present top-down system. If we were starting from scratch on a desert island, it might work, but the gargantuan power of the present state will attempt to squash any competitive movement – and will easily do so if that movement cannot defend itself in the political arena. That’s why the motto of Freedom Force is Impotentes defendere libertatum non possunt. (Those without power cannot defend freedom.)

The Pope made his first visit to the US and, in a stunt that clearly was staged, a five-year old girl slipped through high-level security and interrupted the Pope’s parade. She presented him with a T-shirt and a handwritten letter asking him to help her migrant family – and other illegal aliens – by convincing Congress to open the borders and grant amnesty. Just about everyone on the planet who is exposed to mainstream news reports is aware that the Pope has aligned himself with the world’s Marxists by saying that global poverty and injustice are the result of capitalism.
However, true capitalism has not existed anywhere in the world for almost a hundred years. Where it once existed, such as the United States, it was quietly and systematically strangled to death by thousands of laws that spoke of social reform, stabilizing the economy, protecting the weak, redistributing wealth, sharing resources, providing social services, welfare, and the greater good for the greater number.
We are told that we live in a capitalist system, but nothing could be further from the truth. We now live in a collectivist system that is almost indistinguishable from the theoretical models for fascism, socialism, and communism. The capitalist shell remains, but it is empty.
FREE-MARKET CAPITALISM VS.
MONOPOLY CAPITALISM
Classical capitalism includes the concept of a free-market, controlled by government only to the extent necessary to insure that agreements are honored. What we have now is what might be called monopoly capitalism in which almost all aspects of the market are controlled by government and in which favored players in the game (those that generously fund political campaigns) obtain government-backed monopolies and, thereby, are protected from competition. However, to call that a form of capitalism is also a trick, because it pulls attention away from the fact that monopoly is the normal condition in all collectivist systems, including socialism, communism, and fascism.
Those who are calling for more government control over the economy and over all human activity in the name of fighting poverty are merely demanding more of the same poison that created the illness in the first place.
This is the cruel trick being played on the rank-and-file Leftists who fill the streets and the ballot boxes, but who at the top is orchestrating this trick? Are all Leftist leaders merely ignorant or misinformed, or are there a few masterminds who know full well what they are doing?
There is no doubt that most politicians are fully aware that “evil capitalism” is a modern myth, but it is a useful myth for their purposes. The question of the day, however, is: in which category does the Pope belong?
It’s a good thing that we do not know the answer to that question, because then we would have to defend our position, which could lead to an acrimonious division within our ranks. Fortunately, it makes no difference if the Pope is simply naive or if he sees himself as a global social engineer. Either way, those of us who know the truth must put all question of religion aside. We must step forward to proclaim that he is chasing a myth and that the consequences of following him in this regard will be devastating to the very people he professes to defend.

Costco sells Goodyear wiper blades for almost half the price that you will pay on the outside and they are made in the U.S.A. I don’t buy cards at Hallmark anymore. They are made in China and are more expensive! I buy them at Dollar Tree, 50 cents each and made in USA.
Yesterday I was in Wal Mart looking for a wastebasket. I found some made in China for $6.99. I didn’t want to pay that much so I asked the lady if they had any others. She took me to another department and they had some at $2.50 made in USA . They are just as good. Same as a kitchen rug I needed. I had to look, but I found some made in the USA – what a concept – and they were $3.00 cheaper.
My grandson likes Hershey’s candy. I noticed, though, that it is now marked “made in Mexico .” I don’t buy it anymore. My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico …now I have switched to Crest.
This past weekend I was at Kroger . . . I needed 60W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the light-bulb aisle and right next to the GE brand I normally buy — was an off-brand labeled, “Everyday Value.” I picked up both types of bulbs and compared them: they were the same, except for the price . . .the GE bulbs cost more than the Everyday Value Brand, but the thing that surprised me the most was that that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in – you guessed it – the USA at a company in Cleveland , Ohio .
So, on to the next aisle: Bounce dryer sheets… Yep, you guessed it. Bounce cost more money and is made in Canada . The Everyday Value brand cost less, and was MADE IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday, and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years, at almost half the price.
Stop buying from overseas companies – you’re sending the jobs there. Let’s get with the program and help our fellow Americans create more jobs here in the USA.

The problem with honesty is that it seriously reduces the number of party invitations you get.
Most people give lip service to the old adage that honesty is the best policy, but we all have learned that there are times when it can get you into a lot of trouble. If a woman asks her husband if he likes the nightgown she just bought, he better know the difference between an honest answer and the right answer.
I was raised by a wonderful woman who I called Aunt Alice. The family genealogy is clouded, because my father was adopted, so it’s not clear if Auntie was my true aunt or an earth-bound angel who took me into her home and raised me.
Aunt Alice taught me a great deal about balancing honesty and diplomacy. When grading papers for her high school English students, she would never write “This is terrible” in the margin but might write “This needs improvement”. If someone proudly displayed a modern-art painting and asked her opinion, even if it looked like droppings on the bottom of a birdcage, she would say, “My goodness, that is truly remarkable, dear.” In our family, statements like that are called auntieisms.
All of this has come to mind as I contemplate how to deal with a topic in the news this week that requires total honesty but which also is loaded with emotional triggers that could cause some people to become angry. I have concluded that, in this case, the issue is so important that diplomacy must take a back seat to honesty. One can stretch the truth a bit about the nightgown, but if there is a Black Widow spider clinging to the strap, it’s time for total honesty.
All of this is merely a lead-in to the article in this week’s edition with new information about 9/11. To say that it is controversial is a huge understatement. There is no doubt that some people will be angry because they will understand immediately that it challenges the government’s version of what happened that day. The reason for their anger is that they love America and have come to believe that it is unpatriotic to question the government’s story.
OK, I understand that, but look! There’s a Black Widow spider clinging to that story!
I may have questions about certain features of the alternative story revealed in this interview, but total honesty compels me to say that I think the scenario presented by this former airline stewardess could be the missing piece of the 9/11 puzzle. A former Sergeant in the Marine Corps took a new job as a high school teacher. Just before the school year started, he injured his back. He was required to wear a plaster cast around the upper part of his body. Fortunately, the cast fit under his shirt and wasn’t noticeable.
On the first day of class, he found himself assigned to the toughest students in the school. The smart-aleck punks, having already heard the new teacher was a former Marine, were leery of him, and he knew they would be testing his discipline in the classroom. Walking confidently into the rowdy classroom, he opened the window wide and sat down at his desk. When a strong breeze made his tie flap, he picked up a stapler and stapled the tie to his chest.

I sometimes get positive email from people with good ideas for cartoons. I haven’t been able to draw them all, but I have thought about them. The idea for this cartoon came from a certain Alex L. I realized it was a good idea worth developing and so I did. A few years ago I drew a cartoon that featured forced inoculations and I was laughed at. But now it has become a law in California, and some presidential candidates such as Ben Carson are openly espousing it. We are being treated like cattle, and we’d better start speaking out against these things before the government decides we are ready for their slaughterhouse.

I’m still unclear on that concept? Is it a case of no gold / silver backing our paper currency or does it mean something else? Please help me here?
REPLY FROM GEG: Hello James, the short answer is that, when any of the banks that comprise the Fed make a loan, except under some minor circumstances, they have no money to lend of their own. They simply create it for the specific purpose of lending it. When the loan is paid back, the money goes out of existence again, but the banks have the benefit of collecting interest on it while it exists. That’s interest collected on “nothing”. In truth, however, it is not really nothing. It is worse than that. It is debt. It is the IOU that borrowers gave to the banks in return for the money. So, in reality, the money was created out of debt. That’s it in a nutshell.

Once again, the FBI helped to orchestrate a terrorist plot and then foil it in the nick of time. This one was planned for a 9/11-tribute event in Kansas City, Missouri. The FBI found a mentally unstable and socially isolated person on the Internet who was vulnerable to being enticed into giving advice on how to stage a terrorist attack. The attack initially was suggested by an FBI agent posing as a friend of 20-year Ryne Goldberg, a Florida resident who pretended on the Internet to be a terrorist mastermind living in Australia. Goldberg was asked by his ‘friend’ how best to stage the attack – and, when he gave that advice, he was quickly arrested. A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that, in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine. ‘House’ for instance, is feminine: ‘la casa.’ ‘Pencil,’ however, is masculine: ‘el lapiz.’
A student asked, “What gender is ‘computer’?” Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether computer’ should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.
The men’s group decided that ‘computer’ should definitely be of the feminine gender (‘la computadora’), because: 1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic; 2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else; 3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for later retrieval; and 4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.
The women’s group, however, concluded that computers should be masculine (‘el computador’), because: 1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on; 2. They have a lot of data but still can’t think for themselves; 3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and 4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that, if you had waited a little longer, you could have had a better model.

IS THE FED ILLEGAL?

Hello Patrea.
The Fed is legal because it was created by a law (The Federal Reserve Act). However, it is unconstitutional because it does what is prohibited in the Constitution (issue bills of credit as money). Another way of looking at its unconstitutionality is that Congress gave the Fed power to issue something other than bullion coins as money, yet Congress, itself, never had that power to delegate.
Now, the plot thickens: The Constitution is supposed to be the highest law of the land. If the word ‘illegal’ is defined as something that violates a law, and if the Constitution is the highest law, then the Fed is illegal at the highest level even though it was created by a law. Ironically, that makes it an illegal law!
Unfortunately, the Constitution does not enforce itself. None of this makes any difference if Congress and the President and the judges and the news media and the teachers and the preachers and the voters do nothing about it.

Richard Horton, the Editor-in-Chief of Lancet, a leading British medical journal, says that half of all medical studies are wrong and that medical science “has taken a turn towards darkness.” Scientists have been corrupted by money, conflicts of interest, and an obsession for fashionable trends. IS THE FED ILLEGAL?

What do you see as illegal about the Fed? Are there (or were there) constitutional rights that were suppose to protect the country from such a system? Thank you for your help in these matters, as question arise, and to call upon you is a great gift.

Hello Patrea.
The Fed is legal because it was created by a law (The Federal Reserve Act). However, it is unconstitutional because it does what is prohibited in the Constitution (issue bills of credit as money). Another way of looking at its unconstitutionality is that Congress gave the Fed power to issue something other than bullion coins as money, yet Congress, itself, never had that power to delegate.
Now, the plot thickens: The Constitution is supposed to be the highest law of the land. If the word ‘illegal’ is defined as something that violates a law, and if the Constitution is the highest law, then the Fed is illegal at the highest level even though it was created by a law. Ironically, that makes it an illegal law!
Unfortunately, the Constitution does not enforce itself. None of this makes any difference if Congress and the President and the judges and the news media and the teachers and the preachers and the voters do nothing about it.
WHO IS RIGHT?

I’ve been trying to explain to my Broker at Merrill Lynch – what I’ve heard about the “banking laws” having been changed. I explained that, if Bank of America goes down – my deposits are the property of the bank. In other words, I am a creditor, and the money is an “unsecured loan” and would be lost (I would be in line behind others, i.e. derivative debts of the bank, etc.). He continues to reference the FDIC, saying my money is “insured” against loss… and that my money is on different (250K) “buckets” so that it is ALL within the FDIC insurance limits.
I’ve read a lot about this – but cannot really get to the BOTTOM of the truth. If Bank of America goes down, will my money, in fact, be used, taken, etc. by the bank to pay it’s debts? Am I still ensured by the FDIC? What is the truth about this? Does it depend on the TYPE of money? (pension vs. normal deposits)?

Hello Jeff. I am afraid that I do not know the answer, either. This matter is in flux. I do know that your understanding is a correct summary of where the banks are headed. That is exactly what they intend to implement. The process is called a ‘bail-in’. However, there probably are legal restraints that yet need to be removed by their friends in Washington, but that could happen overnight when the next economic tsunami hits. In other words, you and your broker both are right. He is right as of now. You will be right when it matters.

This is the fourth edition of Need to Know Around the World, which is the new name and look for Unfiltered News.
Last week, I asked for input on how you liked (or disliked) our new format. The overwhelming majority of those who responded said they thought the new format was great. You will find some of their comments in the Forum section of this edition.
However, there were a few negative comments that really caught my attention. Several readers said they found it difficult to track two columns of text, side-by-side, each with different subject matter.
I had to admit they had a good point. When we read a newspaper with multiple columns, we can glance from top to bottom of one column and then easily jump to the top of the next column. However, reading two columns on a computer screen is like reading a newspaper through a square hole in a piece of cardboard that slides over the page. It’s not the same experience.
The problem of dual columns manifested itself in other ways as well. With each passing month, more readers are viewing our publication on iPads and Smart Phones. Trying to crowd all this material into a small screen forces a re-arrangement of our material into patterns that can appear unintuitive and clumsy on mobile devices.
So, what to do? The fact that you are reading this means you already know that the layout has been returned to just one news column – the way it used to be. The result may be less graphically attractive, and the single column now is longer, but it insures that mobile devices will always start at the top of the news and progress from one section to the next in exactly the sequence intended.
I hope you approve – but be sure to let me know if you do not. This is a continuing experiment, and I am looking forward to learning from your experience.

Well, it was sort of a ‘shock’ to see it at first, and the two photos with the first two news items threw me a little as I have become so accustomed to seeing the cartoon near the top. If you are discontinuing those I will miss them, as I always enjoyed them each week. It usually takes some getting used to changes, but I think I’m already used to the new look (took an hour), and now that I have read it all for this week, I don’t find the format very different.
I am liking the slight re-organization of content with the news in two columns and the color changes – which are not extreme – and are pleasant to look at. The new header is great and the blue border attractive. I would say you have achieved a more integrated graphic/symbolic look that suits your content and purpose. Even if I didn’t like it however, I would not stop reading it for such a reason!

I don’t like the multi-column forma, and find myself moving back and forth from column one to column two to make sure I catch everything. I can’t tell the difference between the stories in columns 1 and 2 – I think 1 is “analysis,” but the format of some of the stories seem the same as some in column 2. It’s distracting to have to switch back and forth between the columns. I do enjoy your compendium of news, and thank you for putting it together.

I must admit I wasn’t thrilled with the changes at first, but that is to be expected with anything new. People are used to the old format. But after just 2 or 3 issues, I do like the new format better. It is more aesthetically pleasing, better spacing, the colors are a good choice, and the two columns are a nice touch. By far the best of all is the change on the hyperlink. Before the link seemed to be the whole text summary, the whole paragraph. I post these articles to Facebook, and other social media, so I copy the text. A lot of times I would have liked to copy a segment of it, and it wouldn’t let me do that b/c it was a paragraph long link. So having the ability to just click on (Story) is a big improvement to me.
As a general comment, I just want to say that it’s all great info, and even though I spend a lot of time keeping up with what’s going on, you always seem to find important issues that other sites missed. So I greatly appreciate you sharing the articles, and even more important, your excellent analysis to help us understand the big picture. So thank you for all the years of keeping us informed with all the vital information and perspective you selflessly share. I support the site by buying the excellent products as much as I can afford to. Keep up the great work, and I think the new format is great.

For those of you who may have several computers in service, including an old one still running legacy programs that will not work on modern operating systems, you should know that versions 8 and 9 of Internet Explorer cannot read some of the more modern programming code that is embedded in this new website. What happens is that the blue color that is intended to be seen only around the outside edges of the site bleeds through and obliterates all text and images.
As far as I know, there is nothing that can be done to overcome this problem except to upgrade that old browser with a new one. You will find an interesting discussion of this problem here.

The value of Kazakhstan’s currency has lost a quarter of its international value against the US dollar. Major US aquifers in the Midwest and in California are tainted by nitrates, a contaminant from chemical fertilizers and animal waste. Just leave it to people to screw up a good thing. Why fix something that is not broken? Compared to the original, you have made your site practically unreadable. I hate the new format, vis a vis the old, which I always thought was very well designed and eminently readable. Your choice of design and color made it very special, and it stood out in a sea of humdrum competition. No longer….just white and bland, and not especially easy to navigate.
I am a regular reader, but no more. Maybe you did it to better place advertising, but with no eyeballs, what good are ads? Go back to your old format or risk wholesale defection.

What a blow this is! We spent well over a hundred hours to accomplish what we thought was an upgrade in our old site because readers had told us they thought it was badly outdated. Frankly, I was rather pleased with the new design, but now I am having doubts. By the way, there is lots of color on the new site, much more than on most others, and there are no white pages. The new format looks great! It is working in my old Internet Explorer 9 – I’m still using Windows Vista. Vista does not support anything higher than IE 9, which is starting to create a problem with some of the more advanced web pages out there. My solution was to install Mozilla Firefox. It’s free. I now use Firefox as a standby browser for pages that don’t work in IE 9. I could use Google Chrome but I’d rather not give up all that private information to use anything Google. GREAT JOB ON THE NEW FORMAT!!!

Judging by the feedback from our readers so far, we hit the bull’s-eye with these changes. However, we still still are anxious to know what you think, especially if there are any features you would like to see changed or added.
We deliberately did not include a cartoon last week to test the reaction – and only one reader urged us to continue them, so we currently are leaning toward cutting back on cartoons to the point where we will use only the best of the best, which likely will mean, on average, one cartoon per month.
OLD INTERNET EXPLORER CAUSING A PROBLEM?
For those of you who may have several computers in service, inclding an old one still running a few legacy programs that will not work on modern operating systems, you should know that versions 8 and 9 of Internet Explorer cannot read some of the more modern programming code that is embedded in this new website. What happens is that the blue color that is intended to be seen only around the outside edges of the site bleeds through and obliterates all text and images. As far as I know, there is nothing that can be done to overcome this problem except to upgrade that old browser with a new one. You will find an interesting discussion of this problem here.

That means the jury can refuse to convict people who are technically guilty of violating a bad law. It is revealing that Donald Trump was given more than double the speaking time that Rand Paul received. This suggests that Paul is more of a challenge to old-guard Republicans than Trump is.

A few days ago, a Comex (Commodity Exchange) gold-warehouse report showed that the availability of registered gold was down to a mere 10 tons, the lowest it has been in modern times. That means there is one ounce of real gold for every 124 ounces that speculators think they own because they have paper contracts for it. To prevent panic among investors, a few days later, Comex reported that, miraculously, it’s eligible gold reserves jumped by a whopping 78% overnight, from 362K ounces to 643K. Worried investors went back to sleep thinking that the problem had been solved. However, the new “available” gold did not come from an influx of the real thing, but from an accounting trick performed by JPMorgan. The bank simply took 276,000 ounces of its “registered” gold (meaning registered to specific parties and not to be used for fulfillment of futures contracts) and reclassified it as “eligible” gold (meaning it can be delivered for fulfillment of contracts. HELLO AND WELCOME
This is the first edition of Need to Know Around the World, which is the new name and look for Unfiltered News.
Unfiltered News was launched ten years ago for the customers of Reality Zone, the online bookstore and marketing outlet for American Media. It was to be an antidote to what Orwell called Newspeak by removing the bias and errors often found in mainstream media, and it soon became the trusted, go-to news source for truth-seekers around the world.
However, something important happened during those years. As our readership expanded, we found that we were reaching a much broader audience than just bookstore customers. We are no longer preaching to the choir.
Most of our new subscribers resonate with the message in the phrase, unfiltered news, but many are hesitant to identify with that militant stance when interacting with others. They value the information, but are not yet ready for the crusade.
There is an advantage to being perceived as mainstream while, at the same time, delivering the same content and objectivity as before, so we began thinking about changing our moniker to something more universally appealing.
It was a hard task, because we had become fond of seeing the name, Unfiltered News, in our mail boxes every Friday. But when we hit upon the name, Need to Know, it was an instant winner. It carries a sense of importance and urgency and also retains a bit of the original message suggesting access to hidden information.
OTHER CHANGES
With this name change comes a host of other changes as well. The most obvious ones are in design and functionality, but not visible – yet – is that we hope to build a network of information services, similar to this one, in every county in America. In fact, at the risk of sounding delusional, we are thinking really big and, in our dreams, we envision affiliates in many other countries as well.
This process already has begun, In June, we launched Need to Know – in San Luis Obispo County, California as a pilot for this project, and it already has become a huge success within the community.
I hope you like our changes. I think we are on to something big.

Jesse Benton, Ron Paul’s grandson-in-law and former campaign manager, was indicted for a pay-off scheme to obtain campaign support. Syria: An Al-Nusra group that is tied to Al-Qaeda captured five rebels that have been trained by the US to fight ISIS. Former City-of-London trader, Tom Hayes, was convicted of conspiracy to defraud and was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Joint Israeli-FBI operation discovers JPMorgan hacking scam. Four men, including two Israeli citizens, were arrested on charges of hacking into JP Morgan’s computers and gathering 83-million email addresses. Their intent was to conduct what is called a pump-and-dump scam to artificially inflate low-value stocks and then sell them at a substantial but unwarranted profit. Senior US health officials stopped the FDA from informing dentists of the risks of using mercury fillings. The Department of Health and Human Services claims that they suppressed the warning because low-income patients would not be able to afford mercury-free fillings. If it were established that these fillings are sickening people, manufacturers of dental products and most dentists could face serious legal consequences. Corporations are planning to harness the “idle capacity” of utility smart meters by connecting them to an enormous supercomputer platform. Utilities support this plan because smart meters are idle over 95% of the time. Running them at full capacity would be a bountiful source of additional revenue. On the down side is the fact that bursts of radio energy from these meters already are causing health distress to thousands of people, and the cumulative effect lies ahead. Newly revealed emails show that the Environmental Protection Agency has been working closely with “eco-friendly groups” such as the Sierra Club and the Natural Resources Defense Council. The significance of this is that these groups are funded by billionaires and corporations that economically benefit from EPA policies. Mexico’s peso has fallen 9.7% this year, prompting the central bank to sell $200 million from its foreign-exchange reserves to slow the currency’s slide.
