The nuclear age is aging

The debate over the merits and demerits of nuclear energy is as heated as ever (pun intended). Back in the 60’s and 70’s, I was aware that there were critics of nuclear power who spoke passionately about the dangers of radiation leaks, meltdowns, and severe health hazards, but who had other agendas that were not so praiseworthy.

The coal and oil industries, for example, knew that nuclear power could put them out of business. The best way to eliminate that competition was to get on the “safety” bandwagon to generate public and political opposition to nuclear power. They played a significant role in funding the anti-nuclear-power movement in those days.

Another example was the block of Leninist countries, led by the Soviet Union and, later, by China, who used fear of nuclear energy as a psychological weapon to cause the American people, themselves, to inhibit the ability of their own country to remain competitive on the world stage.

I learned that nuclear power was no more dangerous, and perhaps less so, than the generation of power by coal. That was hard to believe, at first, due to the fact that nuclear accidents are so much more sudden, dramatic, and visual than the unseen, slow deaths of thousands and thousands of cancer and lung-disease victims who succumb to the long-term inhalation of soot and invisible toxic gases – and have no idea they are victims of coal energy.

In more recent times, cleaner emissions have reduced this factor, but there also are newly developed measures, available at reasonable cost, to help people get rid of radiation toxicity, so the score is fairly balanced on that issue.

The nuclear-power industry is playing this game just as aggressively as its opponents. It has a long history of getting governments (tax-payers) to cover their investment risks and losses, and they shamelessly ignore real safety issues, knowing that, if they make the necessary repairs and upgrades, the cost must be paid by them but, if they wait until there is a disaster, the cost will be picked up by taxpayers.

The point here is, not that one type of power generation is better, safer, or more efficient than the others, but that most of the contestants in the arena have axes to grind that have little to do with safety or efficiency. They talk about these things and they produce reams of statistics to prove their points, but their primary concern is the money that will flow into their pockets.

There are three stories in this weeks’ news that touch on the hidden cost of nuclear power. I hope this brief analysis of the larger issues will put these stories into context of why things are unfolding as they are.

Belgium: The government will distribute iodine pills to its population of 11-million people to help protect them against radiation in case of a nuclear-reactor meltdown. Germany has requested that two of Belgium’s aging nuclear reactors be shut down following a series of problems from defective pressure vessels, metal degradation, and fires. Defects in Israel’s nuclear reactor spark a secrecy dilemma. A recent study uncovered 1,537 defects in the decades-old core of the Dimona nuclear reactor, where it is believed that Israel produced its nuclear weapons. Israel has refused to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which would authorize it to build another reactor, but the government does not want to disclose what nuclear weapons it has, so it has chosen a calculated risk that could lead to a national disaster. Kiev, Ukraine: In 1986, the Chernobyl nuclear plant was quickly embedded in a concrete sarcophagus to stop radioactive leaks following its meltdown. However, the leaks have continued and, now, the reactor building is getting a $1.5 billion containment shelter that will encase the old sarcophagus. [The significance of this story is twofold: (1) The building and placement of this gigantic structure is impressive, and (2) when considered in context of the enormous cost of patching up failed reactors at Fukushima and Three-Mile Island, we are mindful that the long-term cost of nuclear energy may be higher than the publicized figures indicate, which do not include the cost of inevitable disasters. China passed new laws to crack down on foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that it believes are fronts for other governments trying to interfere with China’s internal social and political life. [This story has mixed overtones. First, the Chinese Communist government is well known for its intolerance of citizen dissent and its quickness to label any person or group that criticizes the government as a tool of foreign enemies. Second, it also is well known that the US government does, indeed, use NGOs as fronts to interfere in other nations by affecting elections and even fomenting revolution. Venezuela: The government more than doubled the supply of money in 2015, so it is certain that the country’s hyperinflation will continue. The cost of printing small bank notes is higher than the value of the notes, but the government refuses to print larger denominations because that would confirm that there is an inflation problem. US: Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert was sentenced to 15-months in prison for illegally structuring bank transactions to conceal payments to a man who was sexually abused by Hastert decades ago when he was a high school student, and Hastert was his wrestling coach. Monsanto claims that its pesticide glyphosate, also known as RoundUp Ready, can make crops more uniform and produce higher yields. Because of that claim, even some non- GMO food producers are spraying it on their crops. Therefore, if a food is labeled ‘non-GMO’, there is no guarantee that is has not been saturated in glyphosate. Boston, Massachusetts: Harvard University reported that 40 students have been infected with the Mumps despite all of them having been vaccinated, as required by the school. Instead of questioning the effectiveness of the vaccine, school officials followed the party line that the vaccine is wonderful but (are you ready for this?) the students, themselves, are to blame because they exposed others to the virus. [Huh? If a vaccine does not make a person immune to the disease when exposed to it, then what is it good for? Kansas Governor, Sam Brownback, announced that his state is withdrawing from plans to resettle Syrian refugees. This is in reaction to failure of the Federal government to provide security information on them. More than thirty governors have attempted to block refugees from their states but, so far, courts and attorneys general have said that security and settlement issues are the prerogative of the federal government. The US Supreme Court has ruled that Iran is to blame for terrorist attacks against Americans. Therefore, $2-billion of Iranian assets, that have been frozen in the US, is to be used to compensate American victims. Iran threatened to take the case to the International Court of Justice. Additionally, a court in New York levied a $10-billion judgment against Iran, claiming that it was involved in the 9/11 attacks. It is not clear, however, how that judgment is to be collected. The great cholesterol scam finally begins to unravel. A study from researchers at the Universities of North Carolina and Illinois confirms that avoiding saturated fats in the diet to reduce cholesterol levels provides zero health benefit. There is no connection at all between polyunsaturated fat consumption and risk of heart disease. Statin drugs to depress cholesterol levels may be the next scam to be exposed. The UN Security Council rejected Israel’s demand that the UN recognize the Golan Heights as the legitimate territory of Israel. The Golan Heights was taken from Syria in the Six Day War in 1967. Israel says it is essential for its military security. However, large oil reserves were discovered there in 2015, which makes it a great economic prize. A UN resolution in 2006 acknowledged the sovereignty of the Arab population over their natural resources in the Syrian Golan Heights, and any move by Israel to take the oil likely will be considered by the international community as theft. California: The health of marine animals has been in steep decline for three years, and many sea lions recently have been found sick, covered in sores, and starving due to a loss in cold-water food. Austria: Citizens, angered by mass immigration, are supporting the anti-immigration far-right party. For the first time since 1945, Austria will not have a president from either the center-left Social Democrats or the center-right People’s Party. Norbert Hofer, the far-right candidate who received 37% of the vote, says he packs a Glock to protect himself from refugees. The Chinese government is cracking down on parents protesting vaccines. Parents are angry over a recent scandal involving the distribution of $90-million worth of expired vaccines, which they believe is responsible for illness and debilitating conditions in their children. The government is countering with a media campaign to discredit the parents and with intimidation and arrests to break their solidarity. The government of New Zealand is planning to deny local communities the right to choose whether or not to fluoridate their water systems. This action was triggered by the success of an organization called Fluoride-Free NZ, which has convinced many local governments to reject fluoridation. Only 23 of 67 local councils are still fluoridating. [There now is overwhelming evidence that drinking fluoridated water does NOT reduce tooth decay, as its promoters claim, and it is extremely toxic as well. However, the strongest argument against its use in public water systems is that, even though politicians may be voted into office, they have no right to compel us to undergo a medical treatment. That is a choice that should be ours. If people want to take fluoride supplements, they can do so for a few cents a day, but the rest of us should not have to seek private water supplies to avoid medication we do not want. It appears that this is in response to a rule from the Federal Reserve that requires banks to hold highly liquid assets (those that can be converted into cash quickly) to meet short-term obligations when those banks face losses from their bad loans. Put me in charge of Medicaid. Then, we’ll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your “home” will be subject to inspections anytime, and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a “government” job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22-inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the “common good.”

Before you write that I’ve violated someone’s rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.Before you say that this would be “demeaning” and ruin their “self-esteem,” consider that it wasn’t that long ago that taking someone else’s money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self-esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people’s mistakes, we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

While you are on Gov’t subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov’t welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

Many years ago, I made a resolution to stop poking fun at global-warming believers with news stories about unusual cold weather, snow storms, and blizzards.

Although global-warming myth-makers never tire of reporting every unusual hot spell as though it were proof of their claims, I knew it was dishonest to imply that short-term events mean anything except that they are short-term events. Yes, of course, there will be unusual hot spells, even in periods of planetary cooling. I resented the fact that the media was playing mind games with the public, and I resolved that, if we are to take the high ground, we must not stoop to that tactic. Since then, we have never reported on unusual cold spells in such a way as to imply they disproved the theory of global warming. Only reliable records of long-term trends can do that – and those we do report.

As you can see from the photo at the top of this week’s edition, I broke my promise. Sorry, but I just couldn’t help it. I take comfort in the thought that no jury of my peers would ever convict me.

Here are two news stories from this week that are back on track of just reporting the facts.

A team of scientists at Stockholm University performed a study of climate and geology and compiled twelve centuries of ‘water history’ for Europe, North Asia, and North America. They concluded that current climate models and rainfall predictions are wrong. They found that there were more dramatic wet-dry weather extremes (climate change) in earlier centuries long before the industrial revolution that now is blamed for climate change and global warming. To keep the myth of global warming alive in the minds of Americans, the White House issued a warning on April 4th that ‘extreme heat is expected to cause an increase in the number of premature deaths’. On that same day, the National Weather Service issued advisories for April snowstorms. In the past three months, the Veterans Affairs Department has taken away the Constitutional right-to-bear arms from over 250,000 veterans. The VA created a program supposedly to help veterans manage their finances. That’s the bait. If veterans accept the assistance, the VA reports them to the FBI as unqualified to own a firearm. Without psychological evaluation, it is assumed that anyone who can’t manage money cannot be trusted with a gun. Put me in charge of food stamps. No cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho’s, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese, and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. Then, we’ll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your “home” will be subject to inspections anytime, and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a “government” job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22-inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the “common good.”

Before you write that I’ve violated someone’s rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.Before you say that this would be “demeaning” and ruin their “self-esteem,” consider that it wasn’t that long ago that taking someone else’s money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self-esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people’s mistakes, we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

While you are on Gov’t subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov’t welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

FALSE FLAG IN SERBRENICA?

Hi Ed.
Being a native from Bulgaria, the eastern neighbor of Serbia, for most of my adult life I have wished the crash of the artificial Communist International creation Yugoslavia. Serbs by themselves and as the center piece of Yugoslavia have committed and on some level even today are committing genocide against the Bulgarian population of Macedonia.

That being said, after some research in the massacre of Serbrenica, I am of the opinion that this is a big fat lie, a false flag if you will. First, there were at least 2 alleged massacres in Serbrenica during the Bosnian war. The first is the one committed by Muslim forces against Christian Serbs that nobody in the West has heard about. Allegations of killings of men, women and children were made.

The second round of allegations was of Serb forces killings men of fighting age. Women and children were transported by buses to Muslim controlled areas.

I believe Serbs were intentionally suckered to take the allegedly demilitarized enclave by Western provocation. The West was dropping weapons by plane in Serbrenica, and attacks originated from said enclave upon neighboring Serb villages.

Serbs protested the weapons drops but were ignored. They took matters in their own hands knowing that they were closely watched. The local Serb Militia was intentionally kept out of the fight to prevent revenge killings.

Bosnians who allegedly were massacred have seen the engraving of their own names and names of friends they know to be alive as victims of the Serbrenica massacre. Articles:
