The University of Alaska has bought HAARP, the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, after the US military shut it down in 2014. The University is seeking customers among well funded scientists interested in the effects of artificially heating the global atmosphere. Although HAARP currently is turned off, there are similar facilities in other parts of the world that continue to be operational. San Francisco: A federal court has ruled in favor of plaintiffs from the honey and honeybee business who blame the decline in bee populations on pesticides known as neonicotinoids. The original lawsuit, filed in 2013, challenged EPA approval of insecticides containing sulfoxaflor, which is a neonicotinoid subclass. Dow Chemical has vowed to get their product back on the market. THIS WEEK IN REVIEW

Once again, the FBI helped to orchestrate a terrorist plot and then foil it in the nick of time. This one was planned for a 9/11-tribute event in Kansas City, Missouri. The FBI found a mentally unstable and socially isolated person on the Internet who was vulnerable to being enticed into giving advice on how to stage a terrorist attack. The attack initially was suggested by an FBI agent posing as a friend of 20-year Ryne Goldberg, a Florida resident who pretended on the Internet to be a terrorist mastermind living in Australia. Goldberg was asked by his ‘friend’ how best to stage the attack – and, when he gave that advice, he was quickly arrested. There is a backlog of 39,000 Chinese nationals in the US illegally, awaiting deportation. Immigration officials say that 900 of them are classified as violent offenders. Japan has been hit with severe floods, and a state of emergency has been declared. The operators of the nuclear facility at Fukushima say that the plant now is leaking tons of radiation-contaminated water into the floodwaters and, hence, into the ocean. An alternative news source says that dozens of intelligence analysts working at the US military’s Central Command have complained that their reports on ISIS and the Nusra Front in Syria were changed to make the terror groups seem weaker than the analysts believe they really are. [We are reporting this story but urge caution before accepting it at face value. It is in the best interest of the military-industrial complex to exaggerate the threat of ISIS rather than to underplay it. France soon will launch air strikes in Syria. French Prime Minister Manuel Valls says that to end the refugee crisis in Europe, Syrian President Assad must leave office. [The Syrians are fleeing, not from the Assad regime, but from the chaos, death, and destruction being brought to Syrian soil by military and rebel intervention from other countries. The taxpayers of Baltimore will pay $6.4 million for the death of Freddie Gray to settle the civil case against the city, the police department, and the six officers who were involved with the shooting. The president of the police union said the settlement was obscene because it presupposes that the officers are guilty prior to their trial. The French National Center for Scientific Research announced that it found a 30,000 year old virus called Mollivirus sibericum in the Siberian permafrost, and their scientists plan to awaken it to see if it can still infect other organisms. Following the accidental shooting of one of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s top aides, the Governor called for a national gun control policy. His argument was that, since New York’s tough firearms laws did not prevent this shooting, it was time to apply similar laws to the whole nation. Cuomo is a gun owner himself. New York: A traditional pillow fight was held at the West Point Academy where cadets train to become military officers. The event is held at the end of an intensive six-week phase of training and, traditionally, results in bonding cadets closer together. As migrants continue to overwhelm Europe, German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said that hosting the migrants will cost government, federal states, and municipalities $11.2 billion this year as opposed to $2.7 billion in 2014. Germany registered more than 100,000 asylum seekers in August, while 800,000 refugees overall are expected to come to Germany this year – four times the level of last year. A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that, in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine. ‘House’ for instance, is feminine: ‘la casa.’ ‘Pencil,’ however, is masculine: ‘el lapiz.’

A student asked, “What gender is ‘computer’?” Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether computer’ should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.

The men’s group decided that ‘computer’ should definitely be of the feminine gender (‘la computadora’), because: 1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic; 2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else; 3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for later retrieval; and 4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

The women’s group, however, concluded that computers should be masculine (‘el computador’), because: 1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on; 2. They have a lot of data but still can’t think for themselves; 3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and 4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that, if you had waited a little longer, you could have had a better model.

IS MONEY REALLY CREATED OUT OF NOTHING?

I hope that someone (maybe Mr. Griffin?) can give me a more detailed explanation about something from “THE CREATURE” book about “people making up money out of nothing”? I’m still unclear on that concept? Is it a case of no gold / silver backing our paper currency or does it mean something else? Please help me here?

REPLY FROM GEG: Hello James, the short answer is that, when any of the banks that comprise the Fed make a loan, except under some minor circumstances, they have no money to lend of their own. They simply create it for the specific purpose of lending it. When the loan is paid back, the money goes out of existence again, but the banks have the benefit of collecting interest on it while it exists. That’s interest collected on “nothing”. In truth, however, it is not really nothing. It is worse than that. It is debt. It is the IOU that borrowers gave to the banks in return for the money. So, in reality, the money was created out of debt. That’s it in a nutshell.

IS THE FED ILLEGAL?

What do you see as illegal about the Fed? Are there (or were there) constitutional rights that were suppose to protect the country from such a system? Thank you for your help in these matters, as question arise, and to call upon you is a great gift.

Hello Patrea.
The Fed is legal because it was created by a law (The Federal Reserve Act). However, it is unconstitutional because it does what is prohibited in the Constitution (issue bills of credit as money). Another way of looking at its unconstitutionality is that Congress gave the Fed power to issue something other than bullion coins as money, yet Congress, itself, never had that power to delegate.

Now, the plot thickens: The Constitution is supposed to be the highest law of the land. If the word ‘illegal’ is defined as something that violates a law, and if the Constitution is the highest law, then the Fed is illegal at the highest level even though it was created by a law. Ironically, that makes it an illegal law!

Unfortunately, the Constitution does not enforce itself. None of this makes any difference if Congress and the President and the judges and the news media and the teachers and the preachers and the voters do nothing about it.
