The way that Google handles searches for information on candidates can shift the opinion of more than 20% of undecided voters. That’s more than enough to swing the outcome of most elections. This is the third edition of Need to Know Around the World, which is the new name and look for Unfiltered News.

For those of you who may have several computers in service, including an old one still running legacy programs that will not work on modern operating systems, you should know that versions 8 and 9 of Internet Explorer cannot read some of the more modern programming code that is embedded in this new website. What happens is that the blue color that is intended to be seen only around the outside edges of the site bleeds through and obliterates all text and images.

As far as I know, there is nothing that can be done to overcome this problem except to upgrade that old browser with a new one. You will find an interesting discussion of this problem here.

Man killed by St. Louis police was shot in the back, autopsy shows. Two St. Louis policemen who were serving a warrant on 18-year old Mansur Ball-Bey shot him to death in the back, claiming that he pointed a gun at them. Korea: Tensions are escalating after South Korea accused North Korea of planting land mines that injured two South Korean soldiers on a patrol route in the southern part of the zone. The value of Kazakhstan’s currency has lost a quarter of its international value against the US dollar. This was the result of abandoning its peg to the dollar in an effort to make its currency more independent. Oil is a major part of Kazakhstan’s economy, and it has fallen from $100 per barrel last year to $40 per barrel. Other currencies have dropped, also. Citing security concerns over terrorist attacks in theaters, Regal Cinemas, the largest theater chain in the US, announced that its employees will search moviegoers’ bags. It has been theorized that Regal’s profits will rise because the policy will discourage bringing outside food into the auditorium. US: Republicans in the House filed a lawsuit to determine whether the president may spend money that was not appropriated by Congress. The lawsuit alleges that Obama’s top aides quietly claimed the power to spend $178 billion over the next decade to reimburse insurance companies for the cost of co-payments for low-income people under Obamacare. The US National Institute of Cancer says that marijuana kills cancer. Its FAQ page features studies that describe how cannabis “may inhibit tumor growth by causing cell death, blocking cell growth, and blocking the development of blood vessels needed by tumors to grow”. North America has lost 42% of its pollinator bees, and honeybee colonies in the United States have declined from 6 million in the 1940’s to just 2.5 million in 2014. This is a serious threat to agriculture and the US food supply. The bee die-off has been linked to neonicotinoid pesticides, and activists have had success in pressuring retailers such as Lowe’s and Home Depot to stop selling the poison. New Mexico: Albuquerque police officer Dominique Perez and former detective Keith Sandy are facing charges of second-degree murder after they shot James Boyd, a homeless man, in March 2014. The Albuquerque Police Department has had over 40 officer-involved shootings since 2010, but this is the first time charges have been filed against police officers in the past 50 years. Major US aquifers in the Midwest and in California are tainted by nitrates, a contaminant from chemical fertilizers and animal waste. Nitrates oxidize natural uranium in the soil, making it soluble in groundwater. These aquifers, which provide water to one sixth of US cropland, now have up to 180 times the safe level of uranium, and this is being delivered to the nation’s food supply. The High Plains aquifer gives water to eight states, from South Dakota to Texas. The Central Valley, in its turn, provides California’s most fertile agricultural regions. The Pentagon announced that, by 2019, it intends to increase drone attacks by 50% in foreign lands such as Libya, Egypt, Somalia, Yemen, Afghanistan and Pakistan. HE HATES OUR NEW FORMAT. DO YOU?

Just leave it to people to screw up a good thing. Why fix something that is not broken? Compared to the original, you have made your site practically unreadable. I hate the new format, vis a vis the old, which I always thought was very well designed and eminently readable. Your choice of design and color made it very special, and it stood out in a sea of humdrum competition. No longer….just white and bland, and not especially easy to navigate.

I am a regular reader, but no more. Maybe you did it to better place advertising, but with no eyeballs, what good are ads? Go back to your old format or risk wholesale defection.

What a blow this is! We spent well over a hundred hours to accomplish what we thought was an upgrade in our old site because readers had told us they thought it was badly outdated. Frankly, I was rather pleased with the new design, but now I am having doubts. By the way, there is lots of color on the new site, much more than on most others, and there are no white pages. NEWS SITE LOOKS GREAT

The new format looks great! It is working in my old Internet Explorer 9 – I’m still using Windows Vista. Vista does not support anything higher than IE 9, which is starting to create a problem with some of the more advanced web pages out there. My solution was to install Mozilla Firefox. It’s free. I now use Firefox as a standby browser for pages that don’t work in IE 9. I could use Google Chrome but I’d rather not give up all that private information to use anything Google. GREAT JOB ON THE NEW FORMAT!!!

Go easy on nuclear. Read Dr. John Coleman’s book The Committee of 300 and see that nuclear is a threat to the Establishment, and they will slam the door on it if they can. You know it costs over $1billion just to get permission to build a nuclear plant. 75% of France’s electricity comes from nuclear, and we don’t hear about disasters and tragedies there, and it would be hard to conceal if they were happening.
