US Secretary-of-State John Kerry made surprising comments about the upcoming UN climate conference in Paris next month. He said that it will not result in a treaty nor will there be any legally binding greenhouse-gas limits. Arizona Governor Doug Ducey is creating a border strike force made up of state troopers to help local law enforcement officials respond to drug smuggling, human trafficking, and other crimes on the Mexican border. The EU plans to label all imported products made in the West Bank, beyond Israel’s pre-1967 border, in protest of Israeli settlements and occupation. Israel is concerned that the labels will stop many Europeans from buying their products, resulting in a de facto boycott. US: The Mormon Church is facing strong opposition from the gay community, which is asking Mormons to resign from the church in protest against newly announced policies against gay marriage. Marksville, Louisiana: Police officers, Derrick Stafford and Norris Greenhouse, were arrested for the shooting death of a six-year-old autistic boy who was seated and belted in his father’s vehicle. According to those who have seen a police-lapel-camera video, the police shot at the father, Chris Few, while his hands were raised. Eighteen shots were fired, and the father was injured, too. Here is the background for a series of incidents at have increased racial tensions at the University of Missouri. Earlier this week, a 19-year old white student made threats on social media that he planned to shoot black students, He was arrested shortly thereafter. Student activist, Jonathan Butler, organized a protest group, Concerned Student 1950, that blocked the vehicle of the school’s president, Tim Wolfe, during a parade. Wolfe resigned when the football team threatened to stop playing. The chancellor resigned a short time later. Mexico: A federal judge upheld a 2013 ban on GMOs that prohibits federal agencies from authorizing the planting of GMO corn seeds into Mexico’s ecosystem. Sacramento officials secretly added cancer-causing chemicals to the water supply. The first chemical was aluminum chlorohydrate, which is believed by many scientists to cause Alzheimer’s. The aluminum was supposed to save money by removing sediment, but it proved to be ineffective. Next, large quantities of chlorine were added, and the two chemicals formed into carcinogenic byproducts known as “DBPs” which are disinfection byproducts.
