The IRS says it has stopped seizing assets from companies and individuals who are accused of "structuring", which is consistently making bank deposits that are slightly less than $10,000. [The IRS assumes that this is done to skirt IRS reporting rules. On average, victims spend a year in court to get their money back and only half of it is ever returned. California Governor Jerry Brown is pushing a package of bills to combat (non-existent) global warming. [The bills would force drivers to cut gasoline use in half by 2030 through use of public transportation, mixed fuels, and higher fuel efficiency. The bills also would require California utilities to generate at least 50% of their electricity from solar, wind, and other high-cost renewable energy sources by 2030. Also, existing buildings will need to increase energy efficiency by 50%. Ferguson, Missouri is back in the news for tension between the city and its citizens. [Civil rights lawyers are suing the City over what they call unconstitutional ‘debtors prisons’ in Ferguson. They claim that people are thrown in jail for not paying modest fines, even as small as $35. When they are released, their fines are increased by penalties and fees for the cost of imprisonment itself. That makes it even more difficult for poor people to pay, which leads to even more imprisonment, That is why this is called ‘debtors prison’. US: The Department of Justice collected $36 billion in fines from major banks to settle charges of selling worthless mortgage securities to investors. [The banks were required to give much of that money to nonprofit housing organizations. Now, a Republican-led House committee is investigating whether those organizations were ‘liberal-leaning’ and if they even had any right to the money. The suspicion is that this settlement may have been a ploy to covertly move billions of dollars into the budgets of left-wing groups that support left-wing political agendas.
