Michigan became the 34th state to endorse a Constitutional Convention under Article V of the US Constitution. [A Con-Con would open the entire Constitution to being scrapped and rewritten if that is the whim of the delegates. Article V requires a 2/3 vote of the states but does not cover the possibility of states rescinding their vote after they have given it. Michigan met the required 2/3 state majority needed, but several states have rescinded their call. There is no provision to rescind an application, and there is no precedent to follow on this issue. Leawood, Kansas: The Harte family is suing the Johnson County Sheriff's office for $7 million for making a SWAT-style raid on their home, destroyed property, and held them hostage at gunpoint. [The Hartes came under suspicion when a Missouri Highway Patrolman saw Mr. Harte exit a hydroponics equipment store with a small bag that he concluded was being used for growing Marijuana. No drugs were found on the premises, because the equipment was being used to grow vegetables. If the couple wins the lawsuit, the Sheriff's office will pay with taxpayer money. John D. Rockefeller, Sr. died in 1937. What could he possibly have done to influence politics in the U.S. today? Answer--Everything! Australia wireless 250 years ago.

After having dug to a depth of ten feet last year, British scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 200 years and came to the conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 150 years ago.

Not to be outdone by the British, in the weeks that followed, an American archaeologist dug to a depth of 20 feet, and shortly after, a story published in the New York Times said: "American archaeologists, finding traces of 250-year-old copper wire, have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network 50 years earlier than the British".

One week later, Australia 's Northern Territory Times reported the following: "After digging as deep as 30 feet in his backyard in Tennant Creek, Northern Territory, Knackers Johnson, a self-taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely bugger-all nothing. Knackers has therefore concluded that 250 years ago, Australia had already gone wireless."

IS A LIMIT ON CAMPAIGN DONATIONS A LIMIT ON FREE SPEECH?

(The following comment is in response to the April 2 story about the Supreme Court abolishing limits on campaign donations. In that story, we said that this "will legalize a bribery scheme" for deep-pocket donors.) Here is the response from T.P.:

Gee, I didn't know we supported government regulations on free speech! As long as there is full disclosure, I like the Court's decision.

REPLY FROM GEG:
Is this really a limit on free speech? No one is prevented from speaking or making requests, but shouldn’t they be limited in what they can give to legislators? If not, why not allow them to give money to other government employees, as well – such as investigators, police officers, judges, and administrators? What makes legislators different? In fact, why be concerned over bribery at all? As long as there is full disclosure, it’s only free speech, right? Sort of like a public auction. The highest bidder wins, fair and square.

If the state were a protectorate instead of a government, if it were limited to the protection of life, liberty, and property instead of aggressively controlling all aspects of society, this would be a non issue, because there would be little incentive for bribery of public officials but, until that day arrives, I would like to see a prohibition against any private financial support of public employees. As long as we live under collectivism, it is a mechanism for favoritism.

It's far too early to have a final opinion, but I distrust any currency issued by politicians, without intrinsic value, and distributed free to anyone. Still, some people probably will become wealthy during the startup phase. Will it last and serve the people and the economy in the long run? We shall see.
