ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS TO THE GRID

Dear Edward.
The urgent need to protect the power grid is a solution to the apparent threat of solar eruptions, but it is only one of the many possible solutions. Alternative solutions are, for example, to create your own electric grid (solar energy, wind energy), protect it properly and make sure you have the necessary spare parts, or have alternative backups to electric energy (wood stove, solar heating, etc.). And if the threat of solar eruptions is truly permanent then people could also decide to fully prepare themselves by building their own eco-house.

For as long as you are willing to highlight alternative solutions to the apparent threat of solar eruptions besides the solution of protecting the power grid, you and your work cannot be considered to have gone to any side whatsoever. [She is referring to the comment from a reader who thought Griffin had gone to the Dark Side.] Keep up the good work.

Hello Eva. That is exactly what we intend to do, although we feel that time is of the essence and that the quickest results for most people is to protect the grid. No matter what we advocate, 99% of the population will NOT move out of the cities, will NOT develop an independent water supply, will NOT grow their own food, and will NOT be able to survive under dire circumstances. Recommending alternative energy and close-to-Earth lifestyles is a feel-good solution but not of much practical use to most people. Still, we will do it for the few ˗and because it is the right thing to do.

CLEVER COMMERCIAL DOES NOT MEAN HEALTHY DOG FOOD

I understand the cuteness of this commercial and its appeal for entertainment. I also have concerns by your posting this on your website that some may think that this is decent dog food. Corn is bad for dogs, and most of the corn, and soy produced in the U.S. are GMO, which stomach gut bacteria has been shown to update into a body and modify that body's DNA. Food Production Daily ran an article today regarding consumer demand driving GMO foods out of major manufacturers product. So it will most likely go into livestock and pet food. Through livestock it still enters the human food supply. So please consider that there are people who may mistake the showing of this commercial as an endorsement.

It never occurred to me that anyone would think we were endorsing the Purina dog food when we posted a link to the commercial that would 'put a smile on your face.' A SOLAR-FLARE AH-HA MOMENT

I don't catch on real quick all the time, and the thing about the power grid getting blown out by a solar flare didn't really connect until I was on a plane flying to Lost wages, Nevada.

I just wonder what would happen to Airliners if such a thing happened? With everything being controlled 12 ways from Sunday by the airports and their control towers and associated equipment, I'd be amazed if planes could get down safely. And once one crashed into another, that would be all she wrote. Flights coming in would have no way of knowing if the airport was capable of accepting them because all communications would be lost.

How many planes are in the air at any given time? How would they know what runway to use or in what order they would land? They wouldn't and I doubt that the pilots would be able to, uh, wing it. And it's not like they can stay up there forever. Say O'hare airport had 200 flights coming in which were already in the air. How many runways do they have? One crash between two planes could wipe out more than one runway. God what a mess that would be.

And how about Nuclear Power plants? What would happen if they couldn't control the reactors because their transformers were blown? Fukashima x 100? And that's just the tip of the iceberg isn't it and only the immediate effects too. I see why we should be concerned.
