CAN CONGRESS MAKE THE FED BEHAVE ITSELF?

solve the US monetary problems:

Thanks for sending the manuscript, which I have examined carefully. It is an
excellent overview of the problems with our monetary system. Unfortunately,
I am one of those "economic purists from the Austrian School" mentioned at
the end of the manuscript who believes that fiat money is the problem and
that it makes little difference if it is created out of nothing by bankers
for economic expediency or by politicians for political expediency. The end
always will be the same.
The only solution is to allow the volume of money to be determined entirely
by free-market forces. There is no reason to expect that the next
generation, once given a drink of the heady wine of fiat money, will somehow
regain civic sobriety and do what is best for their fellow human beings. It
won't happen. Saying that we must force Congress to regain control over the
Fed and make it behave is to call for something that is contrary to human
nature, logic, and history.
As long as bankers (or a sub-set of politicians) have the power to create
money at their discretion, then THEY are the ones who will be controlling
Congress, not the other way around. Any solution to our present problems
based on the fantasy of giving men power over the money supply and then
expecting them to exercise that power wisely is, in my view, just that … a
fantasy. But, then, I am one of those danged Austrian-School "purists," so
what do I know? Thanks for inviting my response.

Thank you for reviewing. I am of the view that we need a simple formula for
the monetary base. The formula should be tied to population growth and hard
coded into the constitution. Anything other than that leaves too much room

Richard, the simplest formula is no formula. Formulas are designed to be
manipulated. That's why they are created. Therefore, monetary formulas, even
those based on population, always will be manipulated by clowns -- or
scholars. Money based on anything that requires human effort to produce (and
which is not manipulated by clowns and scholars in accordance with a formula
of their liking) automatically keeps pace with the size of the population.
It requires no management by authority. It happens because, when prices
start to rise, the value of money increases and, as the value of money
increases, free men will turn to the production of whatever it is that
people have chosen to accept as money. As that happens, the supply of money
increases also, and its value drops back to that equilibrium point where it
was in the beginning. That's the nature of supply-and-demand, and it is why
monetary systems based on gold or silver historically have had incredibly
stable purchasing power over hundreds of years, even during periods of
increasing population. Inflation, the great destroyer of prosperous nations,
is impossible when money is based on its own measurable composition, such as
weight and purity, and is not burdened by any other formula.
Hard-wired is a great goal, but achievable only in the sense of establishing
a definition for the nation's unit of monetary value; in other words, to set
its weight and measure. Gold and silver once were hard wired into the
Constitution -- until clowns and scholars cut the wires. The only way to
prevent clowns and scholars from destroying a nation's money is, not to
decide which of them will be given power to write (and alter) the formulas
that determine the money supply, but to deny such power to all of them.
Constitutional weights and measures (pounds, inches, dollars, etc.) serve no
beneficial purpose if they are constantly adjusted to accommodate expanding
populations or agricultural seasons or employment quotas or economic cycles.
Their function is to establish a reliable standard that is constant through
all such changes. Once a monetary standard is set (for example, $1 = 1 oz of
.999 silver), then we should step back, get our intellectual egos out of the
way, and just let the miracle of a free market happen. Three-hundred and
twelve-million people, each making scores of decisions every day,
interactively effecting supply and demand for all goods and services, will
produce a far more equitable and beneficial outcome than any committee of
wise men -- or crooks posing as wise men -- ever could. That's not only the
simplest formula but, in my view, it's the only one that will work.

WE HAVE CREATED A NEW RULING CLASS

It is not the mission of the USA to be the guardian or the policeman of
every country on the planet. We should not send our military anywhere unless
that place or people in that place form a real threat to the USA and/or its
citizenry abroad excepting religious persons. We must put a stop to our
government's eagerness to make war and concentrate on improving the general
state of all humanity through economic endeavors.
If we are interested in such improvement.
Our founders created a form of government they thought would eliminate a 'ruling class ' but in the last century we have created a new ruling class by
not limiting the terms of our elected representatives. Corruption in our
government has become the norm. Senseless armed aggression is now used as an
economic stimulus, rather than free market competition and creative
enterprise.
I am an 80 year old Korean War veteran and an Independent when it comes to
politics and government. I am also a retired small business owner who
managed to get through life without any government largess. I totally
distrust our government and especially the Congress who appear to be a
collection of self serving malcontents hell bent to feather their own nest
at the expense of the common citizen.

BURZYNSKY COULD NOT HELP THIS CANCER VICTIM

Be careful when recommending Dr. Burzynski. His clinic has had some success;
however, they had nothing to offer my husband, James Pellegrino, who had
stage IV colon cancer. They eagerly took our money (almost $100,000) and
offered nothing but false hope. The doctor in charge of our case was afraid
to do anything without the input of Dr. B, and we ended up having to manage
our own case. Their oncologist came up with a concoction of chemo drugs that
killed his liver within a few weeks. They convinced my critically ill
husband that they had a series of infusions that would help even when he was
near death, encouraging us to fly to Houston from Charlotte and then telling
us to go to an ER when they saw he was too sick to even have the infusion.
When he died, not even a condolence note was received.

I had similar concerns for the can of worms this would open. If raising a
military force is justified for something you disagree with, then what is to
stop a bunch of people who dislike Lady Gaga from justifying military force?
How about a bunch of Christian pro lifers going after pro choicers? [or the
other way around]? Abuse victims could raise a force to go after the Pope.
Or the citizens of Israel could hire a force to go after the leader of Iran,
and the citizens of Iran could do the same to Israel. This is just creating
a free market for eliminating the person or people we don't like. This is
commoditizing bullying and taking it to the extreme. Once you open this can
of worms you are setting a very dangerous precedent.
