HEALTH SYSTEM IN THE UK IS BETTER NOW

Dear G E G: you write that your visit to the UK in the '70's (!) did
not inspire much confidence in our national health system. I would
suggest that even ten years ago things were so different from our situation today that it is virtually unrecognizable as the same country. Granted, serving the everyday needs of any large population will always present enormous logistical problems, but compared to the way things used to be, we have moved on and now almost qualify for consideration as a civilised community, so things can always change for the better - in my view, the increased level of public environmental awareness coupled with the financial wake-up call last year has accelerated positive movement, but we cannot really contemplate the enjoyment of an intelligent health system until we as a culture can grasp the holistic concept of planetary health. In that respect, I have two recommendations: Alana Mitchell's excellent book "Seasick"; and Mae-Wan Ho's Institute for Science In Society (oh, and since I live in Hartland - Resurgence magazine, of course.)

LET'S CREATE A VOTERS' INFORMATION SERVICE

This is what a person who feels overwhelmed, like pjwhite, can do that costs nothing and can help EVERY person in the United States.
I felt equally overwhelmed and God helped me to set up this simple but powerful little project...

I simply keep track of the voting record of the 9 politicians we send from Colorado to Washington DC. I only keep track of the major bills -- the ones that are familiar to most people. I don't fight with the politicians before they vote. There are plenty of good people doing that. I'm just keeping a chart of how our 2 senators and 7 representatives vote on major bills. So far it's just:
[1] The TARP (Bailout) Bill
[2] The Stimulus Package
[3] The Give Act (mandatory service for kids)
[4] Cap-and-Trade Bill (Senate hasn't voted on this yet)

All the info is on the internet, I just have to get some info from here and some from there and put it all into one simple chart. Then, a few months before the Nov 2010 elections, I'm going to show this chart to everyone in Colorado who will look at it. I will use the internet to get this chart out to people across Colorado who will help me pass it around. Then Coloradoans will see at a glance exactly who is voting for the bankers and who is voting in the best interest of the people.

People will be able to take this chart INTO the voting booths with them. It will also encourage people to register so they can vote out the bums that are selling us up the river, as clearly shown in the chart. The people will know who needs to be REPLACED.

I don't address the issue of who will replace them. Again, there are many good people trying to do that. The purpose of this project is to clearly display which politicians in Colorado (or whatever state) have PROVEN themselves to be untrustworthy.

Americans want to vote out the bad politicians but they rarely remember how the different politicians voted over the previous 2 years. This chart solves that problem for then very simply.

If just one person from every state compiles this type of chart for their state and then mails and emails it around a few months before the November 2010 election, it will have a huge impact. And it will send a strong message to DC that we ARE remembering how each senator and representative has voted. And we are helping everyone else to remember, too!

Since the votes of each state's DC politicians affect the people in every other state, we who are keeping a chart for our state are really helping all Americans in every other state. And it doesn't cost any money and it only takes about an hour or so every month to add a line to the chart.

I would be happy to coordinate a nation-wide effort if people from each state would email me (penknife101@yahoo.com) to let me know they want to compile a chart for their state. I have all the information they need to get started.

COMMENT ON CANADIAN HEALTH CARE

I would like to comment on what "Jim" said about Canadian/UK Health Care. As a Canadian immigrant, I have seen and heard of many kinds of health care systems around the world. The services we receive in Canada are not the best in the world, but I will be the first to say that it's above average.

What I don't get is the waiting periods, they are agonizingly long. That applies to all three main medical areas: hospital; walk-in clinic; pharmacy. It can take up to (and sometimes over) half a year to get a scan done at a hospital, or to see a specialist. The walk-in clinic is pretty much a joke. My girlfriend has had to wait for hours only to be invited to another waiting room, and saw the "doctor" playing solitaire on his computer. The pharmacy. I still can't figure out why perscriptions take so long to fill out. An hour? Sheesh...

I don't look forward to the days when Canada's baby boomers - one in three - will be 65 and over in 2015. The medical industry will be under more strain than they can possibly imagine, and I will have to pay for it. The same is true in the U.S. I think they're pressuring a national health care plan more on the grounds of serving an upcoming and very large customer base - the aging baby boomers - and the fees will be covered by a legal mandate, how convenient.

IS COLLOIDAL SILVER THERAPY SAFE?

I am a little worried about the wholesale use of colloidal silver in the treatment of this Swine Flu especially. From the Dr Mercola website he specifically advises against it because of what it is. It appears that the Colloidal Silver causes a specific chemical reaction with this complaint that is not good for the human body. Dr Mercola suggests Vit D as a better substitute for colloidal Silver and definitely not the Tamiflu Vaccine.

GEG REPLIES:
I am not aware of any unhealthy chemical reaction to silver except when the particles are too large or the exposure too great – and you really have to work at it to accomplish either of those when using modern colloidal and ionic silver generators. By the way, I am aware of at least two generators that do an excellent job of creating true ionic silver in truly therapeutic quantities.

For every case of a so-called “blue man,” there are hundreds of thousands of cases of safe and effective silver treatments. As you know, silver is perhaps the world’s greatest bactericide, and it has been used safely for centuries. Even the blue skin from overdosing is a harmless side effect. The Mercola article confirms all this, so I see no reason for concern, although caution is always wise.

I agree that Vitamin D should be a great treatment for any kind of flu. However, if a deadly strain should appear, I would want silver therapy in addition to vitamin D therapy – to be safe - especially if silver vapor could be inhaled directly into the lungs where the primary infection is localized.

Dear Ed, When I here or see the term social health care, it makes me wonder if anyone is for social health care, social security or any social benefit does that mean that they are a socialist? And to say that those benefits are free is one of the most ignorant statements I have ever heard. We are not a socialistic country, we are a Constitutional Republic ruled by law not by the majority. Socialism does not work and never will work. What is the answer to the health care problem? Be responsible for your own health and I will be responsible for mine and if I make bad choices then I will suffer the consequence of those choices and it will be my problem not others. I know that that sounds harsh but that is the way that I believe it should be, let the free market decide and I will make my choice what kind of help I need with my heath care may it be traditional or alternative or none at all. Be responsible for your self and I will be for mine.

I very much appreciate all the reports you bring to our attention. However, sometimes I just can't stand anymore. The story about the IRS being even more omnipotent in our lives is just too much! I stopped reading the newspapers and watching the news on TV many years ago because it just made me cry. So much sadness, so much injustice, so much insanity, name it... I couldn't take anymore of it. It's not that I don't want to know what's going on, it's important to be informed, of course. I guess I can only take so much. The same is true with what you present here on your website. I think I'll have to take it in much smaller doses. My soul screams out at the horrors of today's world, the government of this country and others, and I so wish I could do something that would change it all for the better. Of course, that's impossible on the material levels, I would need all the money and power in the world to implement real changes worldwide. On some spiritual levels, however, I might be able to be more effective, but in a more general way, I suppose - righting as many wrongs as I could with Divine guidance and help. In my view and beliefs, it's about the only way to effect the sort of changes I see to be necessary. I greatly admire your work here to keep us informed and knowledgeable about what's really going on in the world, but I can't take any more of it. It hurts my soul to no end. I'll keep my subscription and save your newsletters so my husband can read them, but I can't cope with it anymore. Thank you so much for being here, I'm checking out for now, but I'll never leave!

I respect your views on freedom. However, with regard to the health care system, your views are blinding you to reality. As a Canadian citizen, I have complete freedom of choice to choose my doctor, my hospital, and my drugs. The same holds true for the British system as well. Your statement that “freedom-of-choice would be completely extinguished” (under a government run health care system) is totally false. It’s clear your bias trumps your ability to see reality.

The reports I have received from Canada and the UK do not support the image of great freedom-of-choice. My own observation has been the same. In the 1970s, I made a trip to England with the specific goal of studying the government health-care system there. I witnessed a great lack of choice, horrible delays, and (with the exception of one large hospital in London) antiquated and dilapidated facilities, some of them over 100 years old and looking like a movie set for a Charles Dickens novel. Very few people I met were as enthusiastic as you are. In any event, political systems always deteriorate with time. We shall see what the future will hold. The process is continuing, and "the fat lady ain't sung yet." Thanks for writing.

I was glad to see Donna B. comment about the, alleged, Dept. of Energy ( or lack of ). After spending an average of $25 B annually by this aimless department of the government, we are now more dependent on foreign oil than ever! It stands to reason that this “bureaucratic elephant” was initiated by former President Carter. Look at all the “great ways” the D.O.E. has reduced our oil imports. Samuel Bodman who heads this governmental joke has the nerve to take a paycheck for all this federal ‘tomfoolery’. We are burning fossil fuel at the rate of 68% of total use in the U. S. according to the figures from the D.O.E. itself. Does this make sense to anyone other than the employees of the Dept. of Energy? That is about the extent of it.

Don’t look for anyone in THIS administration to cut back on the funding of our useless, bureaucratic elephant. Political cowards will not get involved in cleaning up this mess. The best thing we can hope for is that the smart voters start WRITING to their elected officials to start a firestorm which would initiate action for a bill in the House. Hope and pray hard on that one too. Patriots, stay strong. Don’t give up. Have your “voices” heard.

The Art of War is a well-known book by Tze, in which is applies some of the principles of Chinese Philosophy to develop various strategies. SInce you've already identified the two important complementary variables: Individualism and Collectivism - the white and black portions on the Tai Chi Symbol. (See also Fuzzy Logic - Bart Kosko)

I thought you might be interested in my interpretation of the black spot in the white area - hidden collectivism or totalitarianism
and the black spot in the white area - hidden individualism or correlated individualism.

If we now apply this martial art technology to the problem of how we might overcome totalitarianism, one strategy would be exactly what you prescribe - through the action of correlated individuals - individuals who act independently, but guided by the same knowlege and principles!

I hope you find this of interest. Thank you for enlightening me: I now know what I have to do as an independent individual.

1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
2. An old friend who once saved your life.
3. The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing that there could only be one passenger in your car? Think before you continue reading. ....

This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application. You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first. Or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to pay him back. However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again. The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) answered:

'I would give the car keys to my old friend and let him take the old lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the partner of my dreams.'

Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought limitations. Never forget to think outside of the box.

Does anybody out there have any memory of the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY ..... During the Carter Administration? Anybody? Anything? No?

Didn't think so! Bottom line ... We've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency...the reason for which no one can remember. Ready??????? The 'Department of Energy' was instituted on 8-04-1977 TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

And now it's 2009, 32 years later... and the budget for this NECESSARY department is at$24.2 billion a year. It has
16,000 federal employees and approximately 100,000 contract employees AND LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE! This is where you slap your forehead and say "What was I thinking?"
Ah, yes, good old bureaucracy...

And NOW_ we are going to turn the Banking System, Health Care & the Auto Industry over to government? May God help us !!!
